The beauty of photography

I completed a 2 week photography course and here are some pictures of my assignments.There are so much more to learn even after this course!!! haha I love Canon 400D!!

Week 1: Each student were getting use to the different functions on their DSLRs. We started our first assignment with 7 basic rules in mind.

1. Fill the frame (Fully frame your subject to eliminating any distractions in your pictures)
2. Rule of thirds ( Imagine an imaginary tic-tac-toe grid on your picture. Two lines horizontal and two lines vertical. Those lines will intersect at 4 points. These points are called the "sweet spots". For some reason, our human eyes tend to draw us to the sweet spots while looking at a picture. So, keeping our "subject" at the sweet spots fulfill this rule.
3. Repetition ( Look out for repeatable objects -eg: a row of statutes. As all the patterns are similar, by using a low depth of field (Small number of Aperture) allows you to focus on one pattern (subject) while leaving the remaining patterns are out of focus.

5. Leading lines ( Lines that leads you to a particular subject- eg: edges of a bookshelf leading to bottle (subject)
6. Framing ( This rule helps us place the subject in reality eg: A beautiful tower is behind a nice arch. Instead of just taking a picture of the tower, we use the arch to frame the tower. This makes the person who is seeing the picture feels like he is there. Tower (subject)arch ( frame)
   
7. Depth ( Using a wide angle lens or a bigger aperture- small number )
   
8. Unity

For our assignments, we were given a maximum amount of pics to take and themes to shoot. No deleting were allowed and no reviewing them on our LCD screen. They were training us to think carefully before taking a picture.. haha.. which was really a good practice for us. Each day, all our pics wre critiqued and the best pictures were rewarded!

Trying out macro shots. Try flipping your lens(kit lens works fine) the other way round, you can get macro shots with them. Move your lens toward the subject and away to get it in focus. It's actually my ring but it appears so much bigger in picture.. haha A very cool thing to play with.

Week 2: Different lighting for portraits, Female/Male postures for portraits, editing pics through picasa and adobe photoshop. That week was really fun.

This week, we were given real-life projects and datelines to hand in. Taking pics, renaming them, resizing them, editing them, upload them online and for one project we had to make a prayer card using the pics and handing them in. Twas really fun!!

Project: Coffee beans. Imagine we had to take pics for this coffee house for them to use in their advertising. I teamed up with another girl and ours were chosen!! We were suppose to get Starbucks' gift certificates but we didn't because Starbucks ran out of them. Sad... =( Still, we were glad ours were chosen.
